Once you have decided to take dance lessons, or to enroll your child in dance lessons, then it is time to find the right dance school for your needs. This can be tricky, as most cities have a large number of them to choose from. In order to narrow down that list, consider these things:
Types/Styles of Dance Offered
Many schools have one or two different specialties. They may teach many different styles of dance, but are better known for their ballet or tap lessons. This is important to keep in mind, as many dance students only want to learn how to dance in one particular style. Make sure that you choose a school that specializes in that type of dance.
Lesson Times/Flexibility
There is no sense to enrolling in dance lessons that you cannot attend because they do not fit into your schedule. When choosing a school, look for flexible scheduling and lesson times that you can make it to. One question to ask is how the school handles missed classes. If you miss a class and give them plenty of warning or have a very good reason, can you make it up later?
A Knowledgeable Instructor
Look for a dance school that has well-trained and experienced instructors. A school with lessons taught by someone who does not know what they are doing can spell disaster, especially since most types of dance are very specific. Someone without the proper knowledge might teach you the wrong movements, which can lead to injuries.
Price/Packages/Per Lesson
If you are looking to enroll in a very good dance school, price should not be the most important factor. You will obviously pay more for a good school than you would for a not so great one. However, you need to be able to afford the lessons, so price does factor into the decision.
